CE Mark
What is it?
The CE marking is a certification mark that indicates that the manufacturer or importer of a product claims compliance with the relevant EU legislation applicable to a product, regardless of the place of manufacture.

Why is it necessary?
Affixing the CE marking on a product states that the product meets the European safety, health or environmental requirements. The CE marking is a symbol of free movement and marketability in the European Economic Area (EEA), also known as Internal Market.
DID YOU KNOW...
CE marking exists in its present form since 1985.

CE stands for ‘Conformité Européenne’ in French (‘European Conformity’ in English).
CE marking is necessary for products that are manufactured, sold or exported within the European Economic Area (EEA). Therefore, a product manufactured outside the EEA but exported and sold in the EEA must have the CE marking, as well as a product manufactured in the EEA and sold elsewhere.

EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA
Those countries are: the 28 member states of the European Union plus EFTA countries (Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein).

Which products need to own the CE mark?
Not all types of products need CE marking to be traded in the EEA. Here there the product groups that are affected by European Directives and therefore require the CE mark.
